Day 1 Of The Poker Stars EPT San Remo Championship

The first day of the Poker Stars European Poker Tour San Remo Championship was expected to have a good turnout and we were not disappointed. We caught glimpses of some of the best poker stars including; Lee Nelson, Daniel Negreanu, Todd Brunson, Chad Brown, and Bertrand “Elky” Grospellier. There were 361 players that signed up on the first day alone – which brought the total amount of entrees to 702 players. This amount of people ensured that the winner would win a total of $1,340,867.

Both Marco Traniello, Isabelle Mercier, and Chad Brown were eliminated early on in the game. Chad Brown was first to hit the sidelines and made it there before the first break was even called. Later in the day they were joined by Arnaud Mattern – the champion of the EPT Prague championship, Thierry van den Berg, and Tony G.

Tony G was given a short stack early in the day and chose to go all in during the pre flop in order to scoop up all of the antes and blinds that had been laid down. He moved all in with a (4-Hearts)(4-Clubs). Another player at the table decided to call and revealed his (K-Clubs)(Q-Clubs). When the slop came down and revealed (Q-Spades)(6-Spades)(2-Diamonds) Tony knew that he was in trouble and that if the river or turn didn’t hold what he needed it would be over for him. Tony G was eliminated and sent to the sidelines to join his other opponents when the remaining cars revealed an (A-Hearts)(2-Spades).

Both Andres Henriksson and Thierry van den Berg were eliminated around the same time (both of them beng on the T6 Poker team). Van den Berg went all in with a (Q-Diamonds)(10-Diamonds). When compared to the (J-Spades)(10-Hearts)(Q-Hearts) that had already been revealed it seemed like a strong move and one that he would definitely win. Yet, we all know how much luck is involved when it comes to poker and it seemed that Berg’s luck has run out. His opponent beat him out when he revealed his flush. Andres Henriksson was eliminated after he went head to head with Billy “Thee Croc” Argyros.

Max Pescatori finished the day with a strong lead. Nearing the end of the day he managed to double his money. He went all in and showed his hand to reveal (K-Spades)(K-Diamonds) a step higher than his opponents – which was (K-Hearts)(Q-Diamonds).. He may not have made it to the top spots – but he did manage to finish off the day with enough money to allow him to return for the second day.
